Chancellor Emeritus of UNO Wins Anchor Institution Community Partnership Award

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to John Christensen, Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), for receiving the Anchor Institution Task Force (AITF) Anchor Institution Community Partnership Award. UNO is a long-time and active member institution of CUMU.

Dr. Christensen served as chancellor of UNO for 10 years and stepped down from this role in May 2017, being named Chancellor Emeritus shortly after. Christensen’s work as a UNO faculty member focused on education, community engagement, and related topics.

“John has been a champion for the power of higher education to focus on serving the needs of the city in which they reside throughout his career. He has led the way in many respects and all along the journey has made time to support others in helping to integrate the community engagement and anchor missions within their institutions and communities,” said Bobbie Laur, Executive Director, CUMU.

AITF, a partner organization of CUMU, is a network of 700 leaders promoting the engagement of anchor institutions in community and economic development. The Task Force will present Dr. Christensen with the award at their Annual Conference on October 27, 2017, in New York, NY.

Congratulations, Dr. Christensen and the UNO Mavericks. Thank you for all your support. We’re so happy to celebrate this achievement with you!
