The Octavius Catto Scholarship is an anti-poverty initiative designed to put more Philadelphians on a path to success at Community College of Philadelphia. This initiative aims to support Philadelphia residents as they are obtaining a free associate’s degree.
Participants in this presentation can expect to gain insights into how this scholarship addresses obstacles like tuition and fees as well as burdens that hit many Philadelphians—especially those living in poverty—particularly hard.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Alexis Mercado serves as the assistant director of scholar recruitment and success for the Octavius Catto Scholarship at the Community College of Philadelphia. In this role, she oversees recruitment and graduation processes, ensuring that Catto Scholars experience a seamless transition into the Scholarship and are well-prepared for their next steps—whether transferring to a four-year institution or entering the workforce.
Paul Tamke, Jr. serves as the assistant director of systems and operations within the Division of Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement at the Community College of Philadelphia. In this capacity, he oversees the development and optimization of data systems, reporting tools, and financial aid processes for the College’s municipal partnership initiatives, including the Octavius Catto Scholarship and the City College for Municipal Employment (CCME).
