The CUMU Annual Conference is the largest nationwide meeting of leaders from urban and metropolitan universities and colleges. We are a diverse community filled with people who are focused on working in partnership to create vibrant, safe, thriving, and equitable neighborhoods, communities, and cities to work, live, and learn.
The Urban Advantage
Just as urban and metropolitan universities and colleges serve an important role in their communities, cities serve important roles in students' academic and personal growth. Urban institutions provide them with the resources to grow and thrive in a fast-paced environment. With better opportunities for experiential learning, research and development, creative activity, and partnerships that create immediate and substantive impact on communities, this urban advantage is on display in Denver, the setting of this year's conference. From a mile above sea level, learn about the ways administrators and scholars are changing the face of urban institutions, and the way these colleges and universities are contributing to the city they call home.
A Robust Exchange of Ideas
We know that CUMU members and stakeholders value the conference’s ability to serve as a platform to both engage in dialogue and learn proven practical applications for meeting our collective challenges and opportunities. To enhance this, the CUMU Annual Conference format this year includes new formats to meet the needs of both the presenters and audiences. This blend of short presentations and longer deep-dive discussions will provide more options to present, network, and discuss on a variety of topics of interest.
What does this mean for you? You now have more options to present, network, and discuss. What do we need from you? We need you and your campuses to commit to present, facilitate, listen and moderate. Submit a proposal by April 21, 2017.
Who Participates We are a community of college presidents and chancellors, senior academic and business leaders, faculty, center directors, community partners, K-12 leaders, economic and workforce development professionals, and policy makers.
The Team Approach
Maximize your CUMU annual conference experience by attending with a team. Assembling a group of professionals from your institution who represent a variety of different fields will allow you to "divide and conquer" as group members attend different events and reconvene to discuss major takeaways from the sessions they attended. This year, the CUMU conference has even set aside times for teams to meet up between sessions to recap and plan ahead, take full advantage of the conference's wide variety of events with the help of a team.
This year, CUMU is reaching new heights—literally! —in the Mile High City, Denver, Colorado. With more than 15 colleges and universities located in and around the Denver Metropolitan Area, the city will serve as an important backdrop for discussing the issues critical to urban and metropolitan institutions and the values that unite CUMU member institutions.
