CUMU PRESIDENTIAL PERSPECTIVES |
Needed: Transfer-of-Credit Paradigm Shift
Joel E. Anderson
Chancellor, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
University faculty and administrators are frequently least enthusiastic about tackling what is arguably the biggest barrier to timely graduation by very large numbers of students—the transfer of credits from one campus to another. - The Honorable Michael Nutter, mayor of Philadelphia - will welcome us to the City of Brotherly Love at the opening reception. Mayor Nutter's reform efforts coupled with his background as a community organizer make him the perfect leader to open a conference dedicated to Building Community Resiliency.
- The founder and director of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program, Jane Golden, will give the keynote address Monday night at the reception in the Franklin Institute. We borrowed the artwork for our logo, above, from Jane Golden's Mural Arts Program, with permission of course.
Westfield State College
Westfield State College, distinguished since its founding in 1838, began as the first, public, coeducational teachers college in the nation, founded upon the concept of education as opportunity. Students benefit from Westfield State's emphasis on service and experiential learning. Westfield State College is a tremendous resource for the region: cultivating partnerships and contributing to cultural, environmental, and economic vitality.

Call to Action: Smart Infrastructure to Create One Million Jobs
This call to action suggests a new national education investment act for the construction of new facilities on our campuses. Written by a colleague of Adam Gross, who is involved with colleges and university facilities, this call to action is necessary now, more than ever. We hope that you will pass this report on to your senators and congress people.
