Carrion

CUMU Presidents meet with Director Adolfo Carrion from the White House Office of Urban Affairs Policy
At the CUMU Strategic Planning Meeting on June 8, 2009, Director Carrion from the White House Office of Urban Affairs Policy discussed the implementation of an Urban Agenda and President Obama’s launch of “National Conversations on Urban America.”  These discussions will address issues such as green development, the workforce, transit, and public housing.  Last week, the Coalition provided Director Carrion a list of CUMU institutions that have expressed their commitment to serving
as conveners for these conversations.

CUMU Members Participate in Congressional Urban Caucus Briefing
CUMU Executive Committee Members, Dr. James Harris of Widener University and Dr. Wim Wiewel of Portland State University, participated on a  paWhite Housenel discussion for the Congressional Urban Caucus briefing on the “Retooling HUD for a Catalytic Federal Government: A Report to Secretary Shaun Donovan.”

CUMU Appoints new Executive Committee Members
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Christensen as Chair of the CUMU Program and Policy Committee and Dr. Wim Wiewel as Member-at-Large. Dr. Christensen will be replacing Dr. Nancy Zimpher in this role as she transitions into her new role as Chancellor of The State University of New York. Dr. Wiewel will be replacing Dr. Christensen in his previous role on the Executive Committee.
