The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement announced this week that $30M of funding has been made available through the "Promise Neighborhoods" program for nonprofits, Native American tribes, and higher education institutions. The Department of Education will award 5-7 grantees $4-6M per year for up to 5 years. These funds are designated to help execute plans that will improve the educational and developmental outcomes of students in impoverished neighborhoods across the US.

Eligible institutions will propose plans that provide young people with opportunities to be successful in school and benefit from improved education, health, and safety services. This funding will provide support for the implementation of comprehensive services, including:

• early learning initiatives

• K-12 to college and career

• health improvement programs

• improved neighborhood stability and safety

• increased family engagement

• improved access to learning technology

The Promise Neighborhoods team will host four webinars for individuals interested in submitting an application, with a chance to submit questions. Representatives may participate in all four webinars, being held on July 20th, 22nd, 26th, and 28th.

Interested parties can submit their proposals through Grants.gov before the September 6th deadline. Applicants are strongly encouraged to notify the Department of their intent to submit a proposal by August 11th by contacting PromiseNeighborhoods@ed.gov.
