CUMU Impact Survey

Colleges and universities play an integral role in the prosperity and life of the communities in which they are located—exhibiting a commitment to place, as –-represented by their educational activities, research, outreach, and development partnerships. The current federal administration, private corporations, and foundations have shown interest in funding and partnering with institutions of higher education to improve communities. Thus, it is increasingly important that more precise information is collected and disseminated regarding the impact institutions of higher education have on the communities they serve.

This report attempts to meet these features of organizational exchange, common policy development and community development through a summary of data derived from CUMU’s first national study of its membership. The survey was administered, distributed, and collected by an ad-hoc committee of CUMU members. Additionally, supplemental secondary data collected from IPEDS1 was necessary to describe all of the CUMU member institutions, not just the surveyed sample of CUMU members.
