The CUMU Executive Committee is excited to announce the third Regional Facilitated Dialogue themed “The Future of the Civic Engagement Movement & the Need to Articulate Evidence.” Hosted in New York City and under the guidance of expert speakers and scholars, this one-day meeting will explore questions such as:

  • Where is the civic engagement movement now and where are we going as engaged institutions?
  • How can we better articulate evidence for our work?
  • How can institutions best prepare for the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement (or re-classification) process?

The Facilitator

Dr. John Saltmarsh, Co-Director of the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) a the University of Massachusetts, Boston will serve as facilitator for the Action Summit. Dr. Saltmarsh currently leads NERCHE’s work as the administrative partners with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for Carnegie’s elective Community Engagement Classification. He’s written numerous articles, chapters, and studies focused on the critical role of civic engagement, service learning, and experiential education. He’s a recognized expert in engaged scholarship, and annually presents the Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty at the annual CUMU conference.

John will be joined by several institutional leaders to share best practices for assessing civic engagement, articulating evidence, and furthering the civic engagement culture.
