Provosts and Deans
This year’s conference will feature a special lunch session on Sunday October 24 for Provosts and Deans. The topic will be “The Role of Community Engagement in Retention, Promotion, and Tenure Criteria.” As institutions seek richer and more engaged relationships with their surrounding communities and regions, the relationship of engagement and service learning initiatives to the traditional categories of teaching, research, and service becomes an increasingly important issue.
At the lunch session, attendees will be asked to speak briefly and informally about the ways in which community engagement and service learning “count” at their institutions, as the basis for an open discussion about approaches, issues, and challenges.
All Provosts and Deans attending the conference are welcome to contribute to this special session. If you are interested, please email Fresno State Provost William Covino with the names of those who will be representing your institution, and a one-paragraph description of whether and/or how community engagement and service learning “count” for your faculty.
