JONATHAN HAWGOOD, anchor: Some of the nation’s top academic authorities getting together (sic) today to work on cooperation between universities in these tough economic times. More than 200 presidents, vice presidents and provosts are expected to attend today’s event at NKU, kicking off a four-day conference to unite their schools. UC and NKU are billed as the co-hosts.
DATE 10/20/2008 BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT CAROL WILLIAMS, co-anchor: Two local universities teamed up to host a conference this week that looks at how colleges around the globe are dealing with tough economic times. The national academic conference titled “The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities” took place at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center today. NKU president Dr. James Votruba and UC president Nancy Zimpher were selected to cosponsor the conference. More than 200 education leaders from private and public institutions talked about a number of issues, including improving economic development.
Dr. JAMES VOTRUBA (NKU President): It’s--it’s people with similar interests, similar values getting together to share ideas, share programs and--and also, at the public policy level, to take a close look at how we can encourage at the state and federal level, public policy support for the work that we all do.

JACK ATHERTON, co-anchor: UC and NKU teamed up today, bringing 200 university presidents to Covington to discuss challenges facing metro colleges. They agreed that in tough economic times cooperation among American universities is important. This is the first time our two colleges have jointly hosted a conference.
DATE 10/21/2008 BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT TODD DYKES, co-anchor: Representatives from more than 200 universities, including UC and Northern Kentucky University, will get together today. They’ll be talking about issues facing urban colleges. The conference will take place at NKU, and it will include panels and forums on a variety of issues, ranging from economic development to health issues.
