CAROL WILLIAMS, co-anchor: Two local universities teamed up to host a conference this week that looks at how colleges around the globe are dealing with tough economic times. The national academic conference titled “The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities” took place at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center today. NKU president Dr. James Votruba and UC president Nancy Zimpher were selected to cosponsor the conference. More than 200 education leaders from private and public institutions talked about a number of issues, including improving economic development.

Dr. JAMES VOTRUBA (NKU President): It’s--it’s people with similar interests, similar values getting together to share ideas, share programs and--and also, at the public policy level, to take a close look at how we can encourage at the state and federal level, public policy support for the work that we all do.
